Specter predictions

Predictions:

Arlen Specter, as chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, will step on many toes, all of them Republican.

He will vote against some prominent conservative judicial nominees, perhaps including the first Supreme Court nominee, but he will not cooperate with Democrats to keep the nominations from the floor.

Since the Senate is 55-45, the committee will no longer be divided 10-9, so Specter's negative vote won't kill any nomination.

Bonus: Obama will be given a committee seat and, as the only black Senator, will take the lead in attacking the Bush judicial nominees.

UPDATE (11/5): Conservatives are mobilizing.
